Fr Salem Habib Ganni is beyond any need for introduction as he is a well known icon for Christian scarification. He was born in Karmelash (1942) following his graduation from Baghdede secondary school/literature department 1966, he joined the convent 1968 following three years of studies, he was adorned as a priest at Karmelash by bishop Jebraeal Ganni in 1971.

He served in Basrah’s parish for three years then went to Lebanon for treatment as he was unfortunately subjected to an unsuccessful eye operation that resulted of losing his eyesight. He returned to Karmelash in 1974 to serve his village’s parish and he remained there since serving without any reluctance or indolence despite the heavy burden from his illness. But this burden has never barren him from his duty, but on the contrary, this increased his determination to carry his cross and to serve all believers. He is now chairing an assembly consists of five members to serve the village. As they had received a financial support from a charity and they used it to establish an internet café to serve the villages youngsters in addition to the reconstruction of the historic church of St. George (Mar Gorgis), installing air-conditioning unit in St. Aday (Mar Aday) church and St.Joseph educational center.
They also acquired seven electric generators to serve the church institutions and their utilities.

He is also involved in many other large projects that serve the village with that cost over a half million us dollars.
He is ongoing in his massage to serve God and Church.
